Akutso Design Lab in collaboration with Yellow Mesh Studios is pleased to announce Ofoe Amegavie as the artist-in-residence for the next two months, beginning Thursday, 10th June, 2021.
Akutso Residency Programme is designed to provide the artist with the opportunity to explore and experiment with new processes, creation of works and research on topics that explore the use of technologies of any generation. In its first iteration, the program required a collaboration with Yellow Mesh Studios to offer an open studio space and the use of its facilities to the artist during his two-month period, culminating in an exhibition of their work at the end of the residency.
Ofoe Amegavie is a Ghanaian photographer with a passion for all things cultural and spiritual in human societies. He is inspired by his own family’s ancestry, dating back to Togbui Sri I of Anloga, and its story of migration from the Volta Region to the coast of Ada-Foah in the Greater Accra region.
He has created his unique style by applying a curious approach and a spiritual perspective to fine art, fashion and documentary photography, portraying his culture and heritage through an intimate insight into everyday encounters.
During this residency, Ofoe will be exploring one of the oldest forms of printmaking, specifically serigraphy and how this technology can be used to accentuate his ongoing photo project, ‘Between Sand & Water’.
The Akutso Residency Programme is part of an ongoing commitment to grow and sustain the creative practice in Ghana by offering local creatives the opportunity to be in an expressive and innovative space designed to foster creative experimentation with new processes, creation of works or research on topics that explore the use of technologies of any generation. By supporting artists, we support community and culture-building.
